Seal your home. Lower your energy bill

Want to make your home more energy efficient this fall? Then set aside some time to caulk your windows. A well-sealed window helps keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But if you really want to lower your electric bill, don’t stop there. For just a few dollars you can get your house sealed tight as a drum.
Head to your home improvement store and buy a couple of cans of foam sealant and a few sticks of incense. Then carefully remove the interior trim around your windows and floorboards. Inspect for cracks, holes and gaps. Fill these openings with this low-expanding foam. To be sure you have caught all of these draughty gaps, light a stick of incense and search for other less visible leaks. Also, wherever you find old bits of insulation, pull them out and replace with this low-expanding foam sealant. It will be far more effective than the insulation at reducing draughts and saving money.
This is a simple weekend project that should lower your energy bills from 10 to 15 percent. How great is that?
