Summer Energy Saving Tips!

Cool Down and Save Up This Summer

You can’t do much about the rising temperatures — it’s Texas, and pretty much everywhere, it’s gonna be hot.

What you can do is make sure that your energy costs don’t rise along with the heat. We’d like to give you a few energy-saving tips for the hottest part of the year.

Take advantage of your amenities

Your dishwasher and microwave are intended to make your kitchen life easier, right? Well here’s something you may not know: using them more when it’s hot outside could be beneficial for your wallet. Dishwashers use less water than washing by hand, and a microwave uses a third less power than the stovetop.

Unplug it!

That unused cell phone charger, floor lamp or kitchen gadget could be costing you more than you think! Be sure to unplug unused appliances, especially if they only see use for a brief period of time (e.g.: your coffeemaker).

Make your home cool-friendly

  • Summer’s the perfect time to seal any small leaks around the windows and doors of your home, which prevents the cold air from escaping.
  • Replace the filter in your air conditioner unit to ensure that you’re getting the most our of your appliance.
  • Install energy-efficient bulbs to get all your summer reading done while using the least amount of electricity.
  • Make sure that your thermostat is working properly, and that it’s not set too low — placing it somewhere between 68° and 72°F is optimal for saving on cooling costs.
