New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time again. The beginning of a new year. Time to make our New Year’s resolutions. And, in case you are coming up short, we have a few helpful suggestions:

  • Cook Smaller. This year, ration the use of your big oven and range. If you can cook something in a microwave or a toaster oven, do so. This will save you plenty on your energy bill.
  • Dry Clothes Less. This year, dry your clothes a shorter amount of time. Toasty, hot clothes feel wonderful when you take them out of the electric dryer, but this is a waste of energy and actually wears out the fabric of your garments.
  • Invest in a Humidifier. Humidity makes you feel warmer in colder months. With the proper humidity level, you can turn your thermostat down, save energy and still feel comfortable. About 20 percent to 40 percent relative humidity is recommended.
  • Switch to LED lights. They use one-third the energy and last 5 times longer than compact fluorescent lights. They us 10 times less energy and last 50 times longer than old-fashioned incandescent bulbs.
  • Turn off your computer when not in use. This year, try to only turn on the computer, printer and peripherals when you need them. Remember, computers and other office equipment still use energy in sleep mode.

Have a great New Year!
